Maya Shannon, MSW Candidate

She/her | therapy intern

I believe that our greatest growth often comes from our most challenging moments. I see therapy as a supported space where you can begin a journey toward the radical act of being you in a life that is deeply meaningful and fulfilling. Therapy with me starts with a compassionate, authentic, and warm environment where you and I work together to create what you need for healing and growth, while holding space for the pain of living within systems that impact us daily but are out of our control.

So many people yearn for connection and desperately want to be seen for the multi-dimensional person they actually are, rather than a dismissive list of labels, diagnoses, and identities. You deserve to be seen as the full human with a life’s worth of stories, and be met with compassion and understanding so you can truly heal.

I find comfort and joy in the quiet of daily life.

I am often close to home, creating intentional joy in as many moments as I can! You’ll find me listening to an audiobook, tending my ever-growing houseplant collection, trying to start a balcony garden, doing art, playing, games, and spending time with my wonderful wife and our two kittens, Lyra and Melinoë (aka Meli). When I’m not at home, I’m busy playing flute in a local community band, finding water to swim in or sit next to, playing Dungeons & Dragons with my friends (I’m currently playing a druid that I love), or eating excellent food at a new restaurant with my wife.

We'd be a good fit if...

  • You want a space where you can show up exactly as you are
  • You want someone who will sit with you and see you without judgment
  • You are ready to dive deeper into how your lived experiences impact you and the way you move through life
  • You want to find more joy, meaning, and fulfillment in your daily life
  • You believe healing can include laughter, honesty, and a good curse word from time to time

Why This Work Matters To Me

Growing up as a fat, queer woman left me intimately familiar with what it feels like to be different and not belong. After spending over a decade working in nonprofits, it is no accident that I found new purpose working as a therapist and social worker helping people find belonging in their body, in their community, and with themselves. After years of doing my own work, I know how much courage it takes to seek out your own support and show up with the vulnerability to do the work. Just like you, I am another human walking down a path to find what matters in life and where to find little pieces of joy. I would be honored to be a part of your journey.
