She/They | Therapist + Supervisor
As a social worker, I approach therapeutic work through a social-justice and liberation-oriented lens. I believe therapy is inherently political and it is part of my ethical responsibility as a therapist and a social worker to actively work against systemic oppression, confront cishetero-patriarchy, and work to dismantle systemic violence and injustice. This lens allows me to see not only what is going on internally for the folks I work with, but how the systems they operate within impact their lives and wellbeing.
Too many people have had experiences with medical and mental health professionals that make them feel unheard, invalidated, and hopeless. You are more than the systems you operate within and you are more than the mental health challenges you deal with. No matter what you’re showing up with, every single part of you deserves to be seen, understood, and met with compassion.
In nature is where I find the most peace and connection. I love camping, slow, mindful hikes, playing games (Phase 10 is my jam), and just sitting among the trees. When I can’t make it to the mountains,I love cuddling up on the couch and playing cozy video games or watching a good TV show with my lovely wife and our 2 pups, Lola and Dax.
As a fat, queer, gender non-conforming person who grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma, I am intimately familiar with the challenges that come with being in spaces that weren’t made for you. It’s not a coincidence that after years of working in education I ended up pivoting to the social work field. Working as a therapist and social worker has allowed me to create spaces and show up for populations that I’ve seen be left behind over and over, and that’s why this work means so much to me. Having spent years figuring out how to cope and live with my own mental health challenges, I have a deep understanding and appreciation for the vulnerability and courage it takes to choose to invest in working on your mental health. It would be an honor to be a part of that work with you.
